What you need before you start
BitSave as a crypto index investment platform allows Indians to run a monthly or weekly SIP into Bitcoin and into an index of large crypto assets, with KYC through DigiLocker or an Aadhar upload, a ₹1000 minimum and no lock-in. A SIP is a Systematic Investment Plan: a fixed amount invested on a fixed date, every week or month.
How do you start a crypto SIP in India?
You start a crypto SIP with BitSave in four steps. Complete KYC. Pick a product. Set a monthly or weekly amount and a date. Pay the first instalment by UPI. The instruction then repeats on that schedule until you choose to change it.
- Complete KYC. KYC, or Know Your Customer, is the identity check required for Indian financial platforms to enable investing. DigiLocker is the preferred route, because your PAN and Aadhaar are fetched from the government database. Alternatively, an Aadhaar upload takes the same time.
- Pick a product. BitSave Bitcoin, the BitSave Crypto Index, or BitSave Crypto & Gold.
- Set a frequency, an amount and a date. Weekly or monthly, from ₹1000. The date you choose is when the instalment falls due.
- Fund the first installment with UPI, bank transfer, or your BitSave wallet.

What do you need before you sign up?
Three things. An identity verification, which you complete through DigiLocker or an Aadhaar upload, whichever you have. An Indian savings bank account in your own name. And ₹1000, which is the minimum for a BitSave SIP, whether you set it weekly or monthly.
Nothing else. There is no minimum balance to maintain, no lock-in period, and no separate first-payment minimum.
How long does KYC actually take?
Under 10 minutes. One can complete KYC via DigiLocker or an Aadhaar upload, either take about the same time. BitSave fetches your verified PAN and Aadhaar from DigiLocker directly. With the upload route you supply both sides of the Aadhaar yourself, which is where the minutes may usually go.
DigiLocker is preferred for a different reason. Aadhar uploads may go wrong in predictable ways: a blurred or dull photo, the front of the Aadhaar where the back was asked for, an image that will not scale. Each one means your BitSave RM has to come back to you for a clean copy, and that round trip is the real delay. DigiLocker fetches an already verified record, so that there is nothing to get wrong.
It is not a requirement. If you do not have a DigiLocker account, and many people do not, the Aadhaar upload gets you to the same place.
The safety question usually arrives alongside the speed one. It is answered in full in the safest way to hold long-term crypto in India.
Which BitSave product can you set a SIP on?
BitSave runs three products, and a SIP can be set on each. The BitSave Bitcoin product is a single-asset holding. The BitSave Crypto Index product holds a basket of large cap crypto assets and tracks the Bloomberg Galaxy Crypto Index. The BitSave Crypto & Gold product holds Bitcoin and Ethereum alongside gold in one product.
Which one suits you is a different question from how to start. The product pages carry the detail.
How much should you start with?
₹1000 is the minimum for a weekly or monthly BitSave SIP. Starting at the floor is a reasonable way to see the whole flow before committing a larger amount. How much of your total portfolio belongs in crypto is a separate question, and it is answered here.
Can you start a crypto SIP with UPI?
Yes. UPI is how most BitSave investors pay, including the first installment and every one after it. You choose the schedule - weekly or monthly and you make the transfer on that date. A standing UPI mandate is not available, because banks currently do not support UPI auto-debit for crypto platforms.
If you want the instalment to run without you, two routes do that. An auto NEFT instruction, National Electronic Funds Transfer, set up with your bank. Or auto-debit from your BitSave wallet, which you top up in advance. Both run on the date you set, with no action from you on the day.
What happens on each SIP date?
Your payment reaches BitSave on the date you set whether weekly or monthly. The amount buys into the product you chose at that day's price, and units are credited to your account. You get a record of each instalment, and the year's tax statement sits in Tax Corner.
Crypto is taxed in India under the definition of Virtual Digital Assets. Your statements are built for that, and they are per financial year.
How do you pause, skip or change the amount?
A BitSave SIP pauses on its own after 3 missed monthly payments in a row, or 8 missed weekly ones. You get a notification and an email when that happens. Your holdings are untouched, nothing is sold, and you can resume the SIP yourself from the app.
Switching a SIP between monthly and weekly resets the missed-payment count to zero. A paused SIP does not restart on its own, even when the missed payment was a one-off. The decision to restart stays with you.
What if a SIP payment goes wrong?
A missed payment is not a failure. Nothing is sold, nothing is closed, and no charge is applied. Miss enough of them in a row and the SIP pauses itself and tells you, rather than retrying quietly in the background. Your holdings are unaffected either way.
For a wrong amount, a bank rejection, or anything the app does not resolve, contact BitSave support through the app.
Next time, the instalment falls due on the date you picked and you pay it the same way you paid the first one. Everything else is already set. The full list of common questions sits on the FAQ page.
